Franciscan Village Continues Investment in West Park

In the fall of 2023, we highlighted significant investments in Franciscan Village’s facilities that included renovated apartments and expanded amenity spaces. Immediately following the completion of that phase of construction, the next began.

Franciscan Village is a senior living community that provides HUD-subsidized housing for seniors sixty-two years and up adjacent to Our Lady of Angels Catholic School. Franciscan Village seeks to provide residents with a safe, comfortable living environment amidst a strong community of other seniors.  Aside from the apartments themselves, amenities include an on-site beauty shop, library, outdoor picnic areas, and service coordinators who can connect residents to services they need or aid them when they are in recovery from illness or surgery.

Franciscan Village regularly has a waiting list of folks hopeful to rent a unit in their community. To help meet the growing need for affordable housing for seniors in West Park, Franciscan Village recently completed construction on sixty-two additional one bedroom units in a new building on their campus.

The historic buildings on Franciscan Village’s property, which were once a monastery, were originally converted to one hundred and seventy-six apartments in 1970. To compliment those, the brand new units have a similar feel but have one major improvement, in-unit dishwashers. Construction of the new building finished in late December 2024 and as of January, twenty-three units were occupied

The final piece of the multi-year investment into Franciscan Village coming this spring is a new pavilion in the back of the campus for residents to enjoy the views over the Rocky River reservation. The pavilion will be named after a former pastor of Our Lady of Angels Church, Father John Cregan to pay homage to his years of service to the congregation and further highlight Our Lady of Angels’ history on Franciscan Village’s campus.
