Our Neighborhood

West Park is a neighborhood of well-kept homes and businesses that occupies the furthest west portion of the city of Cleveland. It is flanked by the city of Lakewood to the north, the Cleveland Metroparks to the west, and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to the south. The service area of West Park Kamm’s Neighborhood Development is the portion of West Park generally west of the railroad tracks along the Red Line of GCRTA’s Rapid Transit.

History of West Park

The origin of the West Park neighborhood is the original City of West Park, which was annexed into the City of Cleveland in 1923.

Kamm’s Corners, named after the late 19th century settler, Oswald Kamm, has a long and distinguished history as one of Cleveland’s most desirable and vital neighborhoods. Located on the western border of the city, Kamm’s offers a suburban lifestyle combined with easy access to Downtown Cleveland. Kamm’s Corners features a variety of homes from luxurious to affordable, and has great outdoor recreation with municipal parks and the Cleveland Metroparks’ Rocky River Reservation.

Oswald Kamm’s General Store and Post Office, built in 1875, still stands on the southwest corner of Rocky River Drive and Lorain Avenue. For more about the history of Kamm’s Corners and West Park, including many old photographs, visit Charles Chaney and Gary Swilik’s westparkhistory.com.

West Park Today

Within the neighborhood is the vibrant commercial district known as Kamm’s Corners at Rocky River Drive and Lorain Avenue intersection. This district is home to more than 50 businesses, from the 2600-employee Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital to unique “mom and pop” local retail establishments, as well as restaurants and taverns, many with live entertainment, especially on weekends.

One of the attractive aspects of West Park is its proximity to destinations throughout Cleveland. It boasts 3 entrances to the Cleveland Metroparks, one of the largest urban park districts in the country, offering golf, bridle and all-purpose trails, boating and fishing, and a wealth of programming. Proximity to other destinations is always mentioned as a great reason to consider West Park for your home.

The housing stock in West Park is well kept, with styles ranging from colonials to bungalows, most built between 1910 and the late 1950s. Some newer developments were added in the 1980s and just after 2000. Many of the earlier houses are in the Craftsman style, with built-in china cabinets, crown molding, and ornate fireplaces. Wide front and screened-in porches are also prevalent, offering residents easy contact with their neighbors and passers-by.
